Sangliers et Peste Porcine Africaine : sonnette d'alarme

Sans céder à la panique, la situation est tout de même extrêmement préoccupante : il est de bon ton que tous les chasseurs soient le plus informés possible de ce qu'il se passe sur notre continent à l'heure actuelle. 

Le Sanglier est une espèce d’intérêt majeur pour les chasseurs. Il risque désormais d’être la victime d’une autre maladie : la Peste Porcine Africaine (PPA), pour l’instant pas présente en France mais qui pourrait avoir un impact important sur les populations de suidés et sur notre activité de chasse.

Il faut à tout prix lutter contre la propagation de cette maladie, il est évident que cela serait dramatique pour la chasse et pour le monde agricole si jamais elle venait à arriver en France. Encore pire, si jamais elle venait à y arriver à cause des chasseurs suite à voyage de chasse dans les pays de l’est  ou un import de sanglier infecté de ces mêmes pays, l’image de la chasse en sera à jamais meurtrie et elle n’a besoin de ça !

La Peste Porcine Africaine, historique :

Le virus responsable de cette maladie est complètement différent de celui causant la Peste Porcine Classique, encore présente dans l’Est de la France, il y a quelques années. Elles sont toutes les deux appelées « peste » en raison des lésions hémorragiques qu’elles entraînent.

La PPA est déjà passée sur le continent européen à la fin des années 50 (Portugal 1957, Espagne 1960 puis s’est répandue dans toute l’Europe). Elle était alors principalement présente en élevages de porcs. La stratégie d’éradication mise en place a bien marché et a abouti à la disparition de la maladie : le dernier foyer en France date de 1974.

Puis, en 2007, elle a été ré introduite sur le continent eurasiatique, en Géorgie, à priori par les eaux grasses d’un navire arrivant d’Afrique. Elle s’est ensuite propagée dans le Sud Ouest de la Russie et s’est ensuite étendue aussi bien vers l’Ouest (arrivée en Europe en 2014 (Lituanie), que vers l’Est (Mongolie…).

 

Caractéristiques du virus/ Principaux éléments d’épidémiologie :

Ce virus fait partie de la famille des Aspiviridae. Le virus responsable de la PPA présente une vingtaine de génotypes différents dans le monde.

Ce virus touche les suidés (Phacochère, Potamochère, Porc et Sanglier) et n’est donc pas transmissible à l’Homme.

En élevage, on observe une période d’incubation courte, de la fièvre, abattement, anorexie, et la mort. A l’autopsie, on observe des lésions hémorragiques sur différents organes, des tâches de couleur lie-de-vin peuvent même être observées sur la peau.

Lors de l’arrivée du virus dans une population de sangliers n’ayant jamais été en contact avec, on observera de la mortalité très rapide, donc sans symptôme, de sangliers en bon état corporel et pratiquement aucune lésion à l’autopsie. Il est aussi probable que les sangliers aillent mourir dans ou à proximité des cours d’eau du fait de l’hyperthermie qu’ils développeront.

La contamination est rapide et se fait par contact direct entre deux animaux ou bien par le biais de matières organiques, en effet, le virus survit bien et longtemps dans l’urine, les fèces, la salive, le jetage nasal, les cadavres, la viande, les produits transformés (salaison, congélation) à base de viande.

Le diagnostic de certitude ne peut être réalisé qu’en laboratoire. Il n’existe pas de traitement. Afin d’éviter la propagation de cette maladie, il faut mettre en place une dépopulation, ainsi qu’une application drastique de bonnes pratiques d’hygiène (nettoyage des bottes, vêtements, matériel, voiture, roues et bas de caisse) après être passé dans une zone infectée.

Elle peut être transmise aussi par les insectes hématophages dont certaines tiques molles, actuellement pas présentes en France, mais qu’on retrouve au Portugal et en Espagne. Ces tiques peuvent même entretenir et multiplier le virus puisque les adultes le transmettent par voie ovarienne à leurs larves, qui, une fois adultes, seront alors en capacité d’infecter les porcs ou sangliers sur lesquels elles feront leurs repas sanguins (transmission verticale au sein des tiques).

Il faut aussi bien avoir conscience que sans intervention des activités humaines, la PPA ne se déplace qu’à une vitesse de 1km par mois environ. Ce sont bien les transports d’animaux vivants, de produits animaux, les activités de chasse, d’exploitation forestière ou agricole qui introduisent la maladie dans des zones indemnes éloignées.

Cette maladie, bien qu’inoffensive pour l’Homme, représente une réelle catastrophe pour les éleveurs de porcs qui verront leurs exportations chuter. Toute la filière porcine française risque d’être mise à mal ! Dès à présent il est indispensable de déclarer rapidement tout cadavre de sanglier, en particulier quand il semble en bon état corporel.

 

Etat des lieux en Europe

Actuellement, la PPA est présent dans différents pays d’Europe de l’Est : les trois Etats baltes, la Pologne, la République Tchèque, la Roumanie, la Moldavie.

Un sandwich au jambon voire une peau de saucisson contaminés, jetés et consommés par un sanglier suffisent pour le contaminer.

Le graphique présente l’évolution du nombre de cas déclarés par semaine depuis 2014. On voit des évolutions au cours de l’année qui semblent se répéter, ce qui pourrait être lié aux activités humaines (agriculture, chasse…).

 

 

Le nombre de cas dans la faune sauvage en Europe est passé de 330 en 2014 à plus de 3200 en 2017.

 

Prévention et surveillance

La probabilité que la PPA arrive en France est réelle. Elle risque d’être transmise par des activités humaines (camions, transports d’animaux ou de matières animales, tourisme cynégétique ou autre) et donc d’arriver n’importe où en France.

Suite à son arrivée, il est très probable que la chasse soit fortement impactée. La maladie sera bien plus facile à gérer si elle est arrivée au sein d’une population peu dense de sanglier.

La prévention est indispensable, elle consiste à :

- Ne surtout pas effectuer de lâchers de sangliers en provenance des pays infectés,

- recenser et bien suivre les parcs et enclos de chasse à même de lâcher des sangliers,

- nettoyer ses bottes, vêtements, matériel, véhicule après un voyage de chasse dans les pays de l’Est

- ne pas transporter de matières animales (viandes, salaison, trophées…) en provenance de ces pays

 

Enfin, il indispensable de bien surveiller notre population de sangliers : plus la détection des premiers cas sera rapide, plus la gestion sera facilitée. Toute mortalité anormale de sanglier doit donc être signalée (animal en bon état corporel, animal trouvé mort à proximité de l’eau, mortalité touchant plusieurs animaux…).
